The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested former director of Bangladesh Coast Guard Mustafizur Rahman in a corruption case involving illegal sale of wheat meant for the coast guards.
Mustafizur, a retired Navy Captain, was nabbed from his Dhaka home on Monday in a case filed 18 years ago, said ACC Deputy Director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, reports bdnews24.com.
On Sep 29, the ACC arrested the former director general of the Coast Guard and now BNP leader, retired Commodore Shafiq-ur-Rahman.
Mustafizur served as a director of Coast guard in the late 90s when Shafiq served as the chief of the force.
In 1998, the Anti Corruption Bureau filed a case against Shafiq and five others, accusing them of involvement in selling away 11,100 metric ton of wheat meant for the Coast Guard.
The graft watchdog says they siphoned off Tk 70.37 million.
