The government has reinstated the spectrum allocation of Citycell on Sunday evening.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood confirmed the information, says private television Channel 24.
Earlier, BTRC took a decision in this regard after a meeting of a special committee at the regulator’s office on Sunday, report agencies quoting BTRC.
On October 20, the BTRC suspended the spectrum of Citycell as it failed to pay the outstanding payment of Tk 4.77 billion and 6.3 million.
On this (Sunday) morning, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court asked the BTRC to reply by (Sunday) noon as to why it has not yet restored the spectrum of telecom operator Citycell.
On Thursday, the Appellate Division asked private telecom operator Citycell to pay Tk 1.0 billion to the BTRC by November 19.
The court also asked the BTRC to resume the spectrum of Citycell immediately.
The Appellate Division ordered Citycell to pay its Tk 4.77 billion and 5.1 million dues to the BTRC in two installments to continue its operation on August 29.
The apex court had asked the mobile phone operator to pay the first slot of Tk 3.18 billion and 4.2 million, two-thirds of the total outstanding payment, within October 19.
As Citycell failed to pay the two-thirds of the total amount within the stipulated time, the BTRC took the decision to suspend the operations of the mobile phone operator as per the law.
