Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on Friday evening after wrapping up her seventeen-day official visit to USA and Canada.
A VVIP jet carrying the PM landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 6:42pm, report news agencies.
Hasina left the US for Bangladesh on Thursday night, ending a 17-day trip to the US and Canada. She celebrated her birthday in the US with her son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy and his family on Sep 28 after attending the UN General Assembly.
The Prime Minister left Dhaka on September 14 for an official two-nation tour in North America. PM attended 71st Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York during her visit in USA.
In Canada, she attended the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund, which discussed global strategies to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria on Sep 16.
She conferred Bangladesh`s `Friends of Liberation War Honour` award on the late Canadian prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. His son and current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received the award.
She also received UN-women `Planet 50-50 Champion` and Global Partnership Forum `Agent of Change Award` during the visit.
Her Awami League party and its alliance, the 14-party combine, along with some other social and cultural organisations have planned a `mass` reception to welcome her on her arrival.
Members of the organisations have lined up along the streets from the airport to the Ganabhaban in the afternoon. -RH
