Bangladesh’s trade deficit with India declined by 10 per cent in the last fiscal year (FY16) mainly due to decline in imports from India over the previous fiscal year (FY15).
Statistics available with Bangladesh Bank reveal that imports from India dropped to $5.45 billion in the last fiscal year which was $5.82 billion in FY15.
On the other hand, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data shows that exports to India increased by 30 per cent to $690 million in the last fiscal year which was $527.2 million in FY15.
Thus, bilateral trade gap dropped to $4.76 billion ($4761.08 million) in the last fiscal year from $5.30 billion in the previous fiscal year.
At the same time, trade between two countries also dropped to $6.14 billion in FY16 from $6.35 billion in FY15 which was $6.49 billion in FY14.
